Max was born and raised in Brisbane, Australia. He steeped himself in old Australian
wine courtesy of his parents’ cellar, always had a fascination for astronomy, and picked up a camera from a fairly young age. All of this led to a career in the wine industry, with a bent for organic and biodynamic farming practices. Having lived the majority of his adult life in New Zealand, he considers himself as much a Kiwi as an Aussie, with a strong affection for the people and land of Aotearoa. He has made wine on four continents (most recently in Oregon), written for dozens of publications, participated on several councils and committees, imported wine from around the world and completed two tertiary qualifications. Max lives in Tasmania with his wife and three daughters, providing consultancy and advocacy within the industry, in addition to vineyard management and wine production for their family brand Anim Wine.
