“The Sun, with all the planets revolving around it, and depending on it, can still ripen
a bunch of grapes as though it had nothing else in the Universe to do.”
– Galileo

Avant d’être bon, un vin doit être vrai” – Nicolas Joly

I am a firm believer in the classic adage that great wines are made in the vineyard. Sustainability is key and by ensuring that the fruit is a true representation of its site, the fullest expression of terroir can be realized by a winemaker who crafts with a surreptitious hand. Thanks largely to my unhealthy interest in soil and geology, I am a strong advocate for soil nutrition and the implementation of organic and biodynamic practices.

I have been fortunate enough to work alongside some of the great people of the New Zealand wine world, especially my time spent at Felton Road and Neudorf. Along with dirt, rocks and all things grapevines, I also harbour a love for writing about wine. Time spent in wine retail has provided exposure to an abundance of wines from all over the world, whilst also rubbing shoulders with a vast network of wine personalities. I continue to enjoy involvement with Campbell Mattinson’s Wine Front magazine, ad hoc contributions for Fairfax Media and occasional articles for the Purple Pages of Jancis Robinson MW.
