“There is an eternal landscape, a geography of the soul;
we search for its outlines all our lives.” – Josephine Hart

I love crafting photos. It’s not just the exercise of setting up the tripod, winding the film on and releasing the shutter. It’s more than that. It’s the anxiety and excitement when packing the car the morning of an impulsive road trip. It’s the smell of pure forest air and the sounds of trickling water and calling birds when traipsing through wild brush. It’s the patient anticipation and inner stillness when waiting for the light to be just right, only to walk away having not taken a single shot.

I am a stickler for light and composition. To me, these two aspects comprise the foundations of great photography. I insist on shooting the majority of my work with film-based cameras using Fuji Velvia transparency film and I have a special affinity for the panoramic format; a passion I fulfil with the help of my Linhof Technorama. I also shoot with Nikon 35mm and digital equipment, in addition to larger format systems.

Born and bred in Brisbane, I moved to New Zealand five years ago and I now spend much of my time photographing vineyard and winery estates all over the South Island . Whilst my photographic endeavours have thus far been restricted to Australia and New Zealand , there is such a wealth of material that one could spend a lifetime in these two countries alone. My travels in Australia have been far-reaching, from North Queensland right down to Tasmania for tourism campaigns, in addition to the east coast beaches for sports photography. When I am afforded some time off during my busy schedule, I love escaping to the solitude of remote nooks in national parks to pursue the ever-evasive light and satisfy my green eye for the spectacular landscape.
